Working with Images in the Gallery Section

The CMS allows you to add images to a lot of different sections within pages. Before uploading images, it is essential to ensure that they are not too large otherwise the CMS will struggle to upload the files, and this may cause your page to timeout and possibly lose data.

Most cameras including phone camera's produce very high-resolution images which are great but too large for your website to display or generate.

Before you upload images, it is advisable to downsize them so they can upload via the CMS.

If your website has a header slot which has a full-width image you need to resize to anything between 1500-2000px wide. All other images shouldn't be uploaded higher than 1000px wide. The system intelligently auto-resizes images to display them at the correct size without adding excess file size to your web page.

The first thing to check is the pixel dimensions of your images.

MAC

Click on any image and then from the top menu go to FILE > GET INFO. You will see a dialogue box pop up. Check the dimensions.

PC

Right click any image and select Properties.

  • If the dimensions are around 1000px either side then you don't need to do anything.

  • If the image dimensions are less than 200px either side, the image is too small and most likely will pixelate

  • If the image is more than 1000px either side you will need to downsize them. There a few methods to downsize images. Those proficient with Photoshop can do this very simply by going to IMAGE > Image Size and then entering the new size.

  • If you don't have Photoshop or you want a faster way to resize a batch of images, you can use a free software called Plastiliq. You can download the software for free from here http://www.plastiliq.com/image-resizer. The video below shows what you need to do. Click the Full Screen icon button on the bottom right.

Please note: Any software recommendations should be checked and installed only if you are satisfied with the developer. The Design Factory cannot take any responsibility or offers any warranty on 3rd party recommendations. Please virus check and downloaded software for your own peace of mind.

1) Make sure Mode = Fit (Keep Proportional) 2) Size = 100 x 1000 3) Format = As original 4) Select your Destination folder by clicking the folder icon bottom right. Important - never overwrite your original images. Always create a new folder e.g 'Resized Images for Gallery 5' so the resized images are placed in there. Now you've done the initial set up, it's time to batch resize your images.

1) Select the folder where your images are currently stored by clicking the to right icon 2) Select all the images you want to resize by clicking CTRL + A on your keyboard or CTRL click each image you want to resize when the dialogue box appears. 3) Next click the 'Resize' button on the top middle of the application 4) Your images will now be resized in the new folder you created in Step 4 above. These are the images which you will upload in to the CMS Gallery Module.
