Back Up
Once a site has been developed, the core site files and database are uploaded to the Web Server. Any content you add to your website via the CMS - is stored in the database. The database grows every time you add content.
It is a common assumption that we, as your website developers will have a back up of your website and database. This is not the case. Once the site has been built, all the data is stored on the web server. We only have a copy of your empty website and core site files.
Unfortunately, websites to get hacked and although we do ensure that our sites are as secure as possible, nothing is hack-proof. Banks with layers and layers of security costing millions get hacked - so nobody is safe!
In the unfortunate event your website is hacked or data corruption occurs, the only way to recover your site to it's last state is by having a recent backup.
We offer a Daily Website core code and database back up service with an enterprise back up company and this costs £200+vat per annum. The backups are kept for 30 days so even if any issue is picked up days later, we can still restore to a point before the breach occurred. This is absolutely critical to minimise downtime and loss of data.
We strongly advise all our clients to have this back up service in place. Please speak to your point of contact at The Design Factory to get this organised.
In the event of a breach, please note, there will be a charge for us to restore the website and deal with any issues. The severity of the issue and nature of breach will be estimated before any work is carried out.
If you decide not to proceed with a back up service, there is very little we can do to help you get your site back online and you may lose all your website and data. The Design Factory cannot be responsible in such an event.
